Each year the students of Fanshawe College’s Graphic Design program host a design showcase. This year’s event is named “Work In Progress.”

WIP Event – August 15 2024
The learning will always continue.
As designers, we are always searching for ways to improve. Whether that’s learning new softwares, design techniques or branching out into new and exciting categories of design, we tend to always be a ‘work in progress.’
This year end show will host the families, faculty and prospective employers of the show hosts and as such, this event needed a strong identity. One that could stand out amongst other events like it.

“As designers we never stop learning”

The intention behind the banner is for it to be used in multiple ways. First, as an advertisement outside the venue prior to the event meaning a registration cluster was needed just as in the following poster concept. Next, it serves as a large way-finding graphic for those arriving to the event. Finally, the banner serves as a photo backdrop for the event so the graphic needed be large and interesting.
Big ideas, capturing big attention.
The poster design was created with its audience in mind. As these are posted around the campus to advertise the event, they needed to be interactive and allow for easy registration. QR codes were added in a large cluster at the bottom below the event description.

The post cards are perhaps the most vital part of this campaign. These are sent to prospective employers, business professionals and to the families of the event hosts. Early on, three main must haves were identified. First, event details were included in a hierarchy to place importance on certain sections over others. Next, an easy to use registration QR code was added for fast access to the event site. Lastly, the way-finding map was included to simplify the navigation process. The venue is particularly new to the campus and while navigating there is simple, it can feel intimidating and this wayfinding map helps alleviate that pressure.
The map graphic is built from an earlier project in the program where students recreate the campus map to scale.
